My dirt canvas
Gardening has been a creative passion of mine since our first home. The outdoor space at our new house felt like a blank canvas—one that reflected the start of a new chapter in our lives. With less than a year between move-in and hosting a wedding reception in the front yard, there was little time to waste bringing that vision to life.
Making Space for Art
I enjoyed the painting and drawing classes that I took in college. But, in the years since graduation I have seldom made time for making art. Occasional art parties with friends inspired me to pick up the paint brush again, and semi-retirement has opened up space in my days. Now I just have to find space in my new home to get messy.
A Leap of Faith
Sometimes big change requires drastic measures. After talking about downsizing for years and going back and forth on where and how we wanted to retire, an opportunity—with a deadline— was presented to us that checked all the boxes. So, in the space of 24 hours we made a decision that would dramatically change the course of our lives.
